A girl who is forced to dress as a boy, a traditional music prodigy, a reporter who hiccups every time she tells lies, and now a gangster-turned-doctor – Park Shin Hye has done it all! Her versatility as an actress is truly a force to be reckoned with, and her sweet looks have won over audiences' hearts from all around the world.
The extent of her popularity is no joke – her fanbase is so large that she has an official fan club, and her fans call themselves 'Starlight Angels'! She has also held 2 Asia tours and a world tour, which has brought her to countries such as the United States, China and Japan, just to name a few.
Park Shin Hye's road to fame began when she was in 6th grade, when her English teacher encouraged her to audition for pop singer Lee Seung Hwan's music company "Dream Factory". After becoming a trainee with Dream Factory, she was given formal training in singing, dancing and acting. She picked up the guitar and keyboard as well.
She made her debut in 2003 at the tender age of 13 as the main female lead in the music video "Flower" by Lee Seung Hwan, but her big break came when she took on the role as the child version of main character Han Jung Suh in the classic Korean drama 'Stairway to Heaven'.
She then took on various roles that garnered less attention than her debut drama, but when she was cast in 'You're Beautiful' in 2009, her portrayal of the clumsy but lovable Go Mi Nyu/Go Mi Nam shot her to fame both in Korea and internationally. Park Shin Hye has starred in many popular dramas since, including 'The Inheritors' and 'Pinocchio', as well as movies like 'Miracle in Cell No. 7'.
However, she isn't just a talented actress! She has an impressive discography as well, displaying her musical talent in soundtracks for most of the dramas she has acted in and even releasing her own singles.
Her soaring popularity after her performance in 'The Inheritors and 'Pinocchio' got her into Forbes list of "40 Most Powerful Celebrities" in Korea – along with other big names like EXO and Kim Soo Hyun. She is also the first Korean female actress to gain more than 5 million followers on Weibo, proving her popularity in China.
The actress's list of achievements seems never-ending. She has become one of South Korea's biggest CF (commercial) queens, and is a media darling. She is also known for her big heart and generosity – she is actively involved in charity work and events, and may just be a literal angel amongst men!
Beneath all the fame and glamour, the bubbly actress is remarkably down to earth. She spends her free time biking, watching baseball games and decorating with flowers. When she was in high school, her love of food even gained her the nickname of "Park Pig" amongst her friends! It's hard not to fall for her girl-next-door looks and humble personality.
After a one and a half year long hiatus, she will be returning to the small screen with 'Doctors' as Hye Jung, a tough and untrusting young woman who studies to become an accomplished neurosurgeon under the guidance of her mentor Hong Ji Hong (Kim Rae Won). In 'Doctors', we can expect Park Shin Hye to be dishing out punches and dazzling us with martial arts moves, as she specially trained in martial arts for the drama.
Catch Park Shin Hye in action in Doctors, every Monday & Tuesday at 8.10pm / 7.10pm (JKT).
